performer - song hotkeys

This page is set up to explain the song mechanic and what hotkeys you need to make in order be effective during The Performer event.

initial setup

Before you continue, load EQ and go into your Actions Menu (CTRL O) and click the Socials Tab.  Flip the pages to see if you have any socials on page 8 and 9.  If you do, move or delete them.

song mechanic

There are four band members: Randal, Seth, Aelfric and Britton.

Throughout this event, you will be emoted by these members to sing the next line of a song.

If you respond incorrectly, it damages The Performer, and you get hit with a mez.

When you respond correctly, it heals The Performer.

adding hotkeys to your .ini file

You'll be adding the hotkeys to your INI file located within your EQ directory (for most people it's C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest).

Find the file assocated with your character, it'll be like charactername_servername.ini   where charactername is name of your character, and servername will be fenninro.  So for example, my INI file for Furro is called: Furro_fenninro.ini

Double click on the file to open it.  Go to the section marked as: [Socials]

Now you're ready to copy and paste the following information below to the [Socials] area.

Important:

After you have the lines copy/pasted.  Save using UTF-8 encoding.  If you're using windows, just click "Save As" and select UTF-8 under the encoding pulldown menu.

You MUST reload EQ in order for the socials to appear.  That is, log out completely, and restart EQ.

an in game example

This is just an example of one of many different possibilities you may encounter during the event.

Below are the lyrics from Britton Harmony.  For this particular example, I'm showing the lyrics to the entire song, so you can see how it all plays together.

Song:
When she and I split ways,
it felt like the end of my days.
Until I suddenly,
suddenly realized
this life was better off alone.
Solitude was the best gift you ever gave me.

Example:

The event has started, and you happen to get emoted from Britton Harmony!

Immediately following this emote, the band member recites a line of their song:

Since it was Britton that emoted, you must target him and respond with the next line of the song:

Since this is the correct next line, you would see the following emote as a result:

IF you had said the incorrect line, you would have seen:

Emote Time:

You have 10-15 seconds to respond with the correct line.  This is plenty of time to move in range, target the correct NPC and hit the hotkey to reply.  Just take your time, and don't panic. 

"Other" Chat Window:

Make sure you have a chat window set to "Other" so that emotes go there.  Also, please note the teal color of the emote in the above example.  This is how these particular song lines appear in game.

Targets:

The socials are set up in a way that allows you to click on the name, and it'll automatically target the corresponding NPC (if within range).  You may find this helpful as the fight goes on, when targeting becomes harder as things get more chaotic.

Incorrect Lines:

If you make a mistake, don't worry about it.  You can make corrections, if done within the 10-15 second window.
